No Surprises Act Disclosure for My Deaf Therapy
What is the No Surprises Act?
The No Surprises Act, effective January 1, 2022, protects individuals from unexpected medical bills. This law is designed to help ensure that patients are not charged unexpected out-of-network rates for specific services, including certain mental health services.
At My Deaf Therapy, we are committed to providing you with transparent billing practices, and we want you to understand your rights and protections under this law.
Key Protections Under the No Surprises Act
- Out-of-Network Providers: If your insurance covers mental health services and you are treated by an out-of-network provider, the No Surprises Act ensures that you will not be charged out-of-network rates in certain circumstances.
- Balance Billing Protections: Providers are prohibited from sending patients a "balance bill" for services that are covered by your insurance and should be treated at in-network rates. This protects you from being surprised by unexpected costs.
Your Rights
- Clear Information About Costs: Before receiving services, you should receive clear information about your financial responsibilities, including whether the provider is in-network or out-of-network.
- Right to Dispute Charges: If you receive an unexpected bill, you can dispute it through your insurance provider or the appropriate agency, such as the Department of Health and Human Services.
